SANEM invites its competitive call for papers for the 5th SANEM Annual Economists’ Conference (SAEC) 2020 on “Institutions for Development”.

SANEM aims to promote quality economic research among academicians, researchers, policy advocates, students and young aspiring economists. SANEM proudly announces the success of the 1st SAEC 2016 on “Bangladesh: Way towards a Middle Income Country” held on 20 February 2016, the 2nd SAEC 2017 on “Managing Growth for Social Inclusion’’ held on 18-19 February 2017, the 3rd SAEC 2018 on “Leave no one behind in South Asia” held on 17-18 February 2018, and the 4th SAEC 2019 on “Governing New Challenges: Inclusive Development, Trade, and Finance” held on 16-17 February 2019. The past conferences were graced with the presence of renowned economists, policy makers and participants from home and abroad. A substantial number of well-thought-out ideas were presented through quality research papers.

Papers should be relevant to any of the following categories:
• Institutions and economic development
• Trade and regional integration
• Structural transformation in the developing countries
• Sustainable development
• Labor market and employment challenges
• Macroeconomic policies
• Social policies
• Poverty, inequality
• Environment and climate change

It is expected that the paper will have some relevance to South Asia and/or Bangladesh. The paper should be submitted following the format provided below. Any reproduction/extension of the previous study is eligible for submission. However, in the case of pre-published papers, consent of the publishers should be provided.

Important Dates:
• Last date for abstract submission :15 September 2019
• Selection of abstracts: 30 September 2019
• Last date of the first draft submission : 15 December 2019
• Feedback by SANEM: 7 January 2020
• Revised/final paper submission: 20 January 2020
• Power-point presentation submission: 25 January 2020
• Conference: 1-2 February 2020

The Format of the Abstract:
The abstract should be an extended one that will include the objectives and the research questions, a brief description of the methodology and an outline of the paper. The abstract should be in Calibri font, 12-point font size with single spacing and must not exceed 4 pages.

Eligibility for Paper Submission:
• People engaged in academics/economic research/policy advocacy with an educational background in economics or related fields.
• Masters/4th year students majoring in economics or related fields.
Partial funding is available for selected paper presenters from outside of Bangladesh.

SANEM encourages young researchers and students to submit their papers. There will be a separate session for the students/young researchers in this conference.


Eligibility for Conference Participation:
• People engaged in academics/economic research/policy advocacy with an educational background in economics or related fields.
• Students studying in economics or related fields.
• Any development practitioner, individuals interested in economic and development issues.
